The College Board announced on January 19, 2021 that it will soon no longer offer the optional Essay section of the SAT test or any SAT subject tests.

According to College Board’s statement, the goal of the cancellations is to reduce the testing burden on students.

Essay Cut from SAT Test Beginning June 2021

If you are currently registered, or plan to register, for the SAT with Essay, you will still be able to test through the June 2021 administration.

After June 2021, College Board will no longer offer the Essay portion of the SAT.

SAT Subject Tests Cancelled Immediately

If you are currently registered for a Subject Test in the US, your test is cancelled and your fees will be refunded.

If you are currently registered for, or plan to register for, a Subject Test outside the US, you may test through the June 2021 administration.

What About My College Application?

College Board has reached out to member colleges about this decision. It is up to each college to decide if and how to consider students’ Subject Test scores. Check colleges’ websites for the best information on their application policies.
